STARTING EARLY

Early Treatment And Treatment For Kids

Not every child needs early orthodontic treatment, but there are times when it is necessary to ensure permanent teeth come through properly. Early orthodontic treatment can reduce the risk of concerns such as crowded/crooked teeth and gaps. Early orthodontic treatment can begin as early as seven years old!

So what exactly is Early Orthodontic treatment?

It's designed to help young children who still have some or all of their primary teeth, which may prevent improper growth and alignment of permanent teeth. There are a multitude of different types of options available in early orthodontic treatment, depending on the specific issue the child has. The primary goal is often to address skeletal issues with the jaw and alignment before or soon after permanent teeth emerge.

The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child should see an orthodontic specialist no later than age 7. Dr Fathimani would evaluate important dental features, such as dental alignment, bite issues, jaw growth, and speech deficiencies. If concerns arise, early treatment would be recommended at the consultation appointment. The ideal time to start treatment is reviewed, which can save families time and expense in the long run. This early treatment would take advantage of growth and prevents complications in the future. If no early treatment is needed, Dr. Fathimani will observe growth and development once or twice a year.
